West Highland White Terrier Club
of Wales
Welcome
DO YOU LOVE WESTIES? HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT BUYING ONE?
As a West Highland White Terrier enthusiast you have found the website of the West Highland White Terrier Club of Wales.
You may probably see a Westie on every street corner, a small white terrier, often with tartan leads giving strength to their origins in the Highlands of Scotland.
Anyone wishing to purchase any breed of dog should seek advice on the breed in which they are interested from the Breed Club, as what is thought to be suitable may not be so. They should also ensure that they go to reputable breeders and these names can be obtained from the Breed Club Secretary. The breed Club Secretary details for your area can be obtained from The Kennel Club.
You should know as much as you can about the character of the breed before making your decision.
No reputable breeder will let you have a puppy until it is at least 8 weeks old. They should provide you with a signed receipt, an information sheet, diet sheet which includes food currently being used and frequency of feeding, and Kennel Club registration documents (sometimes these are a little late coming through but should not be longer than 2 months from the date of registration.)
When buying a Westie puppy or any puppy ask the breeder for a list of items you will need to prepare to take your puppy home i.e. type of collar, bed ,toys.
Most reputable breeders will not let you purchase a puppy until they have seen you and you have seen the puppy in their original home. Do not collect one at a motorway services!!.
