Judges Assessment Seminar
An A2 Assessment Seminar was held on Saturday 19th October, 2002
The Seminar comprised of a formal Kennel Club Assessment for A2 list judges and a Breed Standard training day for observers. A three course lunch was served. The Seminar was held at the Pen yr Heol Community Centre Caerphilly.
It proved to be a very enjoyable day and as usual the hospitality extended by the Officers and Committee of the WHWT Club of Wales was second to none.
The day started with a very informative talk by Muriel Coy (Cedarfell) on the breed standard, from which everyone learned a great deal. This was followed by an excellent talk on judging by Frank Edwards, which gave all prospective judges food for thought.

The group then split with anyone interested in tips on trimming attending Simon Legg's trimming demonstation and the A2 Assessment candidates being given a talk on recent changes to KC Rules and Regulations by Isobel Dyke.

All too soon it was time for lunch - I am sure everyone present could have listened to the three speakers for much longer.
As usual an excellent lunch was served by the Committee which was very much enjoyed by everyone - the Secretary's vegetable soup was much enjoyed - with many asking her for the recipe.

In the afternoon a ring was prepared and observers making up the spectators who were anxiously waiting to see how the prospective judges would place the dogs they were to go over.
The day proved to be a great success and one thoroughly enjoyed by all present. However, I think it is safe to say that the candidates are glad it is over!
Stewarding Seminar
The West Highland White Terrier Club of Wales held a very successful Seminar on Saturday 4th May 2002, entitled the 'DUTIES of a STEWARD'. Roy Hooper was the speaker and some of the comments received have been:-
"What an informative day - we learned so much"
"Well done Roy! That was brilliant"
"Next time I am in the ring I will watch the steward closely to see if they are doing it right"

After a well earned break a fun afternoon was had by all. Judy Packett organised an agility competition. All the dogs present seemed to really enjoy being put through their paces. Much to everyones amusement a committee member, Anita Hall, gave a demonstration to the dogs on how to attempt to complete the course.

The joint winners of the Agility were the President with her dog Gracie and Shirley Hooper with her westie both of whom seemed to be naturals. We thought they must have done it all before. Both dogs seemed really seemed to enjoy themselves.
Alan Hurst proved to be a good sport and got a thorough soaking as he was in the stocks and pelted with wet sponges. The children present seemed to enjoy this!

One of the many stalls |
There were many stalls ladened with goodies to buy. An excellent raffle took place with many prizes to win. One member, who shall remain nameless, won first prize and chose a bottle of Tia Maria which she consumed that evening as she camped. However, it could not have done her very much harm as she was able to pilot her dog to Best of Breed at the Terrier Club of South Wales Show the next day!
The Committee had arranged that Doug Pike kindly allow members to caravan at his farm to enable them to exhibit the following day at the Terrier Club of South Wales Open Show and a very enjoyable evening was spent on the camp site.
